Michael S. – Question #5. What do you think of the quality of the design and composition? Is there enough contrast between each of the seven images to get a true feeling of chromatic metamorphosis, explain? If not also explain? I think that the quality of design and composition of the piece was nicely done. I like the fade from white to blue on slides 1-3. The J is a little plain to me and could have use a bit more pop, but I think that the circles and lines around the letter help it a bit. The last slide has a great design. I love the use of the brown city behind a guy dancing where neon colors represent his skin and clothing. The white boxes around him really make the image pop and make the view look right at the dancer. I think that there is quite a bit of contrast between the seven images that you do get a feeling of chromatic metamorphosis, however I think it would have been cool if the J turned into the dancer. (If you flipped the dancer to where his arms were on the wall and head on the bottom of the image his legs actually make a J shape.) Over all its very nice!

    2. What type of balance is used in the metamorphosis and what is the point of focus? Does either change between the steps or do they remain the same throughout the steps? Be specific in answers.

The primary type of balance used in the metamorphosis is Weight of Elements by Size and Groups. Initially, the composition is dominated by a letter J with a subtle value/hue balance by the gradient in the background. As the final composition fades in across the metamorphosis, the balance comes in between the letter J/Dancer, and ultimately between the dancer and the buildings in the background, specifically the tall tower.

The point of focus does shift across the metamorphosis. First, we are simply presented with a single letter, J, which is our point of focus. As the metamorphosis takes place, the J fades away and a dancer comes in to view, more vibrant than the background and grabbing our attention.

    4. Describe what is potentially happening between the steps. How effective is the continuity between the seven steps, explain? If the continuity is not effective why is it not working?

The beginning is very different from the ending, but I suppose that is one of the points of the project. The beginning started with a bright blue to white gradient with the letter “J” which then lead to a textured final sequence with different colors on the breakdancer in front of the city. The bright blue at the beginning gradient didn’t work for me, because of the different colors at the ending compared to the bright blue at the beginning, it didn’t really blend smoothly. If maybe the gradient was using one of the colors at the end like one of the pink or blue or yellow from the dancer or even the beige of the new background to tie everything together, would have made the sequence work smoother for me.

    Question 3:
How is perspective used in the overall composition? What type of perspective is used and how does it enhance the composition and/or the transition between steps?

    Michael S.

I see no real “perspective” here as the objects were stationary, thus, no movement. It was a matter of fading this in and fading this out.

    1 – Project 3 Critique –Using Color
    1. Name three ways using color enhances the chromatic metamorphosis from sequence to sequence?

    Michael S.
I like the way the picture fades in from the background. One way that color enhances the picture is when the image start appearing. The picture went from blue to light purple when the color of the images start showing up. The second way color enhances the picture is in the 6th image when the color of the background changes from color to light brown or gray and the clothes start to appear colorful. The lighted areas look better in this picture than they did at the beginning. And last, the final picture has the background color in brown that makes it look far away and the person in the front with more brilliant colors that make it look like he is very close and more vivid. The color of this picture is really good.
